What causes blackheads and how do you prevent them?

If you are suffering from acne or other skin problems, you will sooner or later discover blackheads somewhere on your face. Almost anyone has had blackheads at some point. Let's take a look at what causes blackheads and how they form on the skin. Next we take a look at how you can remove them and most importantly what you can do to prevent them from forming again in the future.

What Are Blackheads?

Blackheads form when the oil producing glands in the skin produce too much oil and it collects in a skin pore. As the oil begins to harden, the blackhead forms. The top of the blackhead is exposed to air, which is causing it to dry out faster and turns it black. This gives the blackhead its signature look (and of course its name).

We still don't understand exactly what causes the excess oil production in the glands of the skin. Hormonal changes and other imbalances in the body seem to play a role.

How Can I Remove Blackheads?

You should never just try to squeeze a blackhead out since this could damage the skin and lead to infections.

Instead, place a warm compress on the affected area to soften both the skin and the hardened oil plug that forms the blackhead. Then using some gloves or a clean cloth or tissue, gently try to squeeze the blackhead out. If gentle pressure doesn't do the job, try softening it up with warm compress again.

There are also some commercial blackhead remover tools or blackhead extractors available. Discuss the use of one of these with your dermatologist.

How Can I Prevent Blackheads?

Of course the best way to fight blackheads is to prevent them in the first place. Start by cleaning your face daily with a gentle cleanser that doesn't dry your skin out. Using a harsh cleanser can actually lead to excessive oil production, which we are trying to avoid.

Use a gentle exfoliating mask weekly to remove dead skin cells and improve circulation on your skin.

Avoid oily creams, lotions and makeup. Use a gentle moisturizer instead.

Drink plenty of water and get out in the sunshine daily whenever possible for healthy, well-balanced skin.

By implementing these suggestions, you should see an improvement in your skin and the amount of blackheads within a matter of weeks.

hi, blackheads occur when you have oily skin so the best thing you can try is corn flour mixed with lemon juice. make it into a thick paste and apply it on the area then watch it dry. it so cool you will see little spots of oil from where the pore is and the rest is dry. it works better that all the products you can buy. i've tried it and have never stopped . but one thing you need to remember is that ony do it after a bath when ur pores are open and it might sting a little but nothing to worry about. What causes blackheads and how do you prevent them?
Hi!

I actually found a facial oil that slows down your skins oil production, clears up pimples/ acne and dissolves black heads within 4-8 weeks I put all the info on my blog as it's quite detailed:

http://beautymoi.blogspot.com

I also put a full article of how to extract blackheads and steam your skin.

Black heads are basically a hardened oil mixture that was secreted from your pores and oxidized (which makes the outside part black) and since water and oil don't mix, no water based product can ';clean'; your blackheads away, just try say putting certain foundations or makeups on the mirror and if you wipe it with water it smudges all over but put a little baby oil and wipe and tada! it comes off super clean AND dissolves it. So this is basically how this oil works. It's composition is such that the skin accepts it as a healing oil and it does not clog your skin but rather protects it while the plant extracts inside go down into the pores (this absorption is made possible by applying the toner to the skin before applying the oil and then applying the dabs of oil over your moistened face), it then penetrates into the pores.

I put where to the name of the oil and prices in stores versus on eBay as well as how to apply it on my blog:

Also be sure to check out all the links on my blog as they have lots of info!!!

For acne you may want to Google Drying Lotion by Mario Badescu.

Take care and good luck!

Felisia
Blackheads are hardened sebum which blacken with exposure to the air and are embedded deep into the pores. Cleanse your face with unboiled milk, gently rub a coarse cloth dipped in milk to remove the blackheads. Steam your face with herbs like lavender, lemon peel and mint leaves added to the water and let the skin soak up its goodness. Check out http://useinfo-blackhead.blogspot.com/ for more useful tips to control blackheads.
Hey fox!

Blackheads happen when sebum, dead cells and bacteria drain into the hundreds of tiny pores on our bodies and the skin pigments turn black via oxidisation. These are often mistaken for dirt, but this is a common misconception, it is not dirt.

GOOD LUCK!
Greasy food like pastries and fat. You need to cut down a get fit, to the point that you sweat through your pores. Going to a very hot country helps and sun bathing
oil build up but I use Boots cream Q10 or anything with Q10 you can even get tablet form, that prevents them.
Dirt in your skin pores. Wash more often.
